2004 Crowther SP40 Catana
2004 Crowther SP40 Catana in wonderful condition.
Sitting in a rare pole position berth in Tauranga’s premier marina is “Chelsea Hotel”, a Crowther designed, and New Zealand built catamaran. A safe, solidly constructed, designed and setup catamaran for comfortable, no fuss cruising as her retired owners have enjoyed. A labour of love and attention to practical detail sets this ocean passage capable Catamaran apart. Excellent headroom, large saloon and hull form provide for generous living and sleeping spaces. This is afforded by the two-step design construction of her hulls and provides for generous under deck clearance minimizing sea slap.
Intelligently and strongly rigged, Chelsea Hotel is set UP for single-handed sailing with good performance in light wind with a six and half tonne displacement. Handling in high winds the owner reports ground speeds circa 21 knots but happily covers 200nm a day at a 12-knot cruise with good head to wind performance.
Currently CAT 3, the owners had been in the process of preparing for CAT1 and an Island’s cruising season before COVID and life got in the way of Chelsea Hotels next adventure.
The owners have spent months cruising New Zealand waters over the course of ownership. New owners can have confidence in a proven, well maintained and generously proportioned live aboard for big family adventures.
