It is with great pleasure that the Parker Marine Group, welcomes Classic Boats as the newest member of their group of companies.
Herbert Krumm-Gartner, the owner of Classic Boats completed his boatbuilding apprenticeship with trade certificate in the early 1980’s in Germany.
In 1986 he and his wife Romy decided to immigrate to New Zealand, a country he had visited before and fallen in love with.
Herbert worked for John Gladden Boatbuilders in Milford and this quickly introduced him to the New Zealand way of building boats and he calls this time his second apprenticeship.
His "New Zealand" apprenticeship.
Venturing out on his own he became a working partner at the Wooden Boat Workshop, in Parnell, where he project managed several big restorations and a new build.
A big step up came when he was asked to run a professional boat building work shop at the Auckland Maritime Museum. This venture involved some major restorations of New Zealand Classics as well as teaching small craft clinker boatbuilding over weekends and supervising guided projects with amateur boat builders.
Over the years Herbert was frequently asked by some of his clients to look over a boat that they were interested in buying. So, in his own words, “I got into Marine Surveying almost by osmosis”.
Nowadays, 38 years into his career, he is still as passionate about boats as he was when he started out. His mantra about marine surveying is summed up quickly: “it’s experience that counts”.
This experience has now been allied with the Parker Marine Group of companies and Mike, the Managing Director of PMG says, "we have no hesitation in recommending Classic Boats to anyone requiring a pre-purchase or insurance survey or a new build."
