Introducing Iron Maiden, a rugged and thoughtfully upgraded 1990 Ganley Pacemaker
Introducing Iron Maiden, a rugged and thoughtfully upgraded 1990 Ganley Pacemaker designed by renowned New Zealand naval architect Denis Ganley. Built by Earl Hoffman and constructed in steel, she offers the kind of strength, safety, and Bluewater capability that serious cruisers demand—perfectly suited for extended coastal adventures or offshore passages.
At 40 feet with a generous 13-foot beam, Iron Maiden delivers a spacious and practical layout, featuring a comfortable double aft cabin and a versatile forward cabin that converts from twin singles to a double. With 6ft headroom, a well-appointed saloon, and a large galley (upgraded in 2014 with a 3-burner cooktop and oven), she’s set up for easy living aboard. Reliable refrigeration and freezer systems, along with ample water capacity, make her ideal for extended time away from the dock.
Mechanically, she’s been significantly modernised where it counts. A dependable Kubota V2203 diesel engine was installed new in 2020 and has just 896 hours, delivering economical cruising at 5 knots. Complemented by a Kiwi Prop 3-blade propeller and a new prop shaft installed in 2022, she offers efficient, reliable motoring when needed.
Her sailing setup is equally impressive. Equipped with a furling genoa, staysail, mainsail with lazy jacks, and a light wind sail, she’s ready to perform across a range of conditions. Recent upgrades to the standing rigging—including new stainless cap shrouds in 2024 and replaced stays in 2021—provide peace of mind for offshore sailing.
Navigation and onboard systems are modern and well-integrated, featuring a B&G Zeus3 chartplotter, NMEA 2000 network, Vesper AIS, Raymarine autopilot, and even OpenCPN integration via onboard computer. Add in a Windpilot Pacific Plus windvane, and you have true self-steering capability for long passages.
On deck, Iron Maiden is equipped for serious cruising with a Rocna 33 anchor and substantial ground tackle, Maxwell windlass, boarding ladder, and even mast steps for easy rig access. Safety is well covered, and she comes complete with a dinghy and outboard for exploring those tucked-away anchorages.
With ongoing refits, key mechanical upgrades, and a proven Ganley design, Iron Maiden represents a fantastic opportunity to secure a capable, well-equipped cruising yacht that’s ready to go the distance.
If you’re looking for strength, reliability, and genuine offshore pedigree—Iron Maiden is ready to carry you there.
